Oman hosts Black and White Photography Biennale

Muscat: Greece bagged the World Cup in the 35th Black and White Photography Biennale held in Muscat on Saturday. The gold medal went to Singapore, the silver to Britain and the bronze to Spain. Bahrain, Australia, Ireland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, the Netherlands and Russia were given honorary prizes.
Altogether 456 contestants from 46 countries participated in the international competition. The winning countries received 11 individual prizes and 11 group prizes.
The prizes were given to winners by Sayyid Said bin Sultan al Busaidy, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Culture, at the headquarters of the Omani Arts Association, as part of the Seventh International Forum of Photographers organised by the International Federation of Photographic Art /FIAP.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth hosted the event.
In the individual category, the FIAP gold medal went to John Sheridan from Ireland. The Oman Photographic Society’s gold medal went to Panos Zolax from Greece while the silver FIAP medals went to Heinz Beckers from Germany and Melina Ercig from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Omani Photographic Society’s silver medal went to Tres Uruk from Australia. The Bronze Vibe Medal went to Harald Beebel of Germany, the Vibe Bronze Medal went to Marcel van Balken of the Netherlands and Eugenio Vini of Italy, and the Bronze Medal of the Omani Photographic Society went to Torlo O'Reilly of Ireland.
Jose Luis Orbital from Argentina and Guy Gilson from Belgium also received an honorary mention from the Omani Photographic Society.
The jury consisted of FIAP Secretary-General Eunice Lykoris from Greece, Fadel al Maghoui from Bahrain and Riha Bailer from Turkey.
