Muscat: Al Mouj Muscat Marathon 2022 kicks off in just under a month, and already the running community from across Oman is firmly behind the returning event. Thousands of runners will take their place on the starting line at Al Mouj Muscat over the weekend of November 11-12, 2022 and put their fitness and determination to the test.

So far 12,000 runners have registered for this year’s event, breaking the previous participation record. This year’s event features five race categories, each with a different distance and designed with participants of every fitness and experience level in mind – including children, with 1km, 2km and 3km races.

The upcoming edition of the Al Mouj Muscat Marathon is also helping to support communities across the country by donating proceeds from the 5km runs to the Environment Society of Oman (ESO) and Oman Diabetes Association (ODA). Both non profit organisations aim to make a positive difference in the community by raising awareness of the need to care for the natural environment and the health and well-being of people across Oman.

“Sport has the power to unite the community towards a collective goal. This year’s event will support just some of the excellent causes in operation within the nation. We are incredibly proud to support these projects and use Oman’s most iconic sporting event to raise awareness of the important programmes dedicated to maintaining Oman’s natural heritage. Together, we can make a long-term positive contribution to creating opportunities to improve people’s quality of life and enhance the well-being of the communities across the country,” says Ali al Ajmi, General Manager of Sabco Sports, organisers of the event.

Nasser al Shaibani, CEO of Al Mouj Muscat, added, “Al Mouj Muscat, Oman’s premier lifestyle destination, is proud to bring the community together to support Oman’s most popular sporting event. This is the perfect venue for the race, and we can’t wait to celebrate the dedication of the athletes, share the sense of togetherness enjoyed here every day and take part in the passion for the sport that is enjoyed by so many. We look forward to welcoming the return of runners from across the country and visitors from around the world to experience Oman and share great moments throughout the weekend.”

Sabco Sports has also partnered with UFC Gym Oman to help runners of all ages and experience levels reach their goals. Public training sessions kicked off on Friday September 16 to offer professional advice on how to make the most of the race. The coaches have already helped hundreds of runners maximise their training, nutrition, and preparations as the first step towards a healthier and more active lifestyle. The sessions take place every Friday morning from 8-9 am until the weekend before the race.
