Education minister attends global education summit

NEW YORK: Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed bin Nasser al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education and Chairperson of the Omani National Commission for Education, Science and Culture, led the Sultanate of Oman’s delegation at the Transforming Education Summit held at the United Nations headquarters, on Monday.
The Sultanate of Oman’s participation came in response to an invitation presented by the United Nations Secretary-General to debate the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the education sector and throw light on the educational fields that require more development such as a safe integrated school environment, upgrading teachers’ skills, education and digital transformation and the funding of education.
The summit was attended by heads and representatives of states and governments of member states, education ministers, United Nations agencies, civil society organizations concerned with education.
The Sultanate of Oman’s delegation to the global summit comprised Ambassador Dr Mohammed bin Awad al Hassan, Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations, and senior officials representing the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education Research, and Innovation, and the Ministry of Economy.
Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed bin Nasser al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education, delivered a speech before the Transforming Education Summit in which she said: “I am honoured to convey to you the greetings of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and his wishes of success to your summit.”
The minister of education noted that Oman Vision 2040, which stemmed from a broad social consultation and consensus, concentrated on the modernization of the educational system, supporting scientific research and innovation and enhancing social welfare. The Oman Vision 2040 views education as a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable development.
