India makes wearing masks mandatory on flights

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in India has asked airlines to strictly enforce Covid-19 protocol, including mask mandate, inside aircraft amid rising infections.
The DGCA asked all Indian carriers to strictly enforce the Covid-19 protocol and added it will be conducting random checks on aircraft across the country to see if the Covid-19 protocol is being enforced or not.
This development comes in view of the rise in the number of Covid cases, the airlines have been advised again on August 16 to strictly comply with Covid-19 protocol inside the aircraft, the report said.
India on Wednesday recorded 9,062 fresh Covid-19 infections, taking its tally to 4,42,86,256, while the number of active cases came down to 1,05,058.
Under the orders issued in June, face masks can be removed only under exceptional circumstances and for permitted reasons.
