Biden thanks HM for support in extending Yemeni truce

MUSCAT: Tim Lenderking, the United States Special Envoy for Yemen, conveyed US President Joe Biden’s thanks to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik for the success of Omani endeavours to get Yemeni truce extended, along with the President’s appreciation for the Sultanate of Oman’s support for efforts exerted by the United Nations and the United States to find a permanent and peaceful solution for the Yemeni crisis.

This was conveyed by the US envoy when Gen Sultan bin Mohammed al Numani, Minister of the Royal Office, received Lenderking, at his office on Sunday.

The meeting was attended by the US Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, the US Ambassador to Yemen, and the delegation accompanying the guest.

The meeting also discussed UN proposals to expand and stabilise the provisions of the truce, as well as the efforts to tackle pressing humanitarian and economic issues in Yemen. It was agreed to continue joint action in this regard.

Gen Al Numani thanked the US Special Envoy for his efforts in this respect. He affirmed that the Sultanate of Oman will keep up its stance, in partnership with all parties concerned, to reach a final and comprehensive settlement and to establish permanent peace and security.

Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali al Harthy, Under-Secretary of the Foreign Ministry for Diplomatic Affairs, also received Lenderking. The two sides reviewed the efforts exerted to help Yemeni parties forge a political solution that achieves peace and stability for Yemen and the region.

The meeting was attended by the delegation accompanying the guest and several officials from the Foreign Ministry. -- ONA
