Germany's Olympic cycling champion Brennauer set to retire

BERLIN: Olympic track cycling champion Lisa Brennauer of Germany has said she will end her career after the Eur open championships in Munich later in the month.

Brennauer, 34, won seven world titles and was part of the pursuit team that won gold at last year's Tokyo Games.

"It is the right time. I am happy that I can leave the sport with this positive energy and that I could decide for myself when to quit, and wasn't forced to do so," Brennauer said.

Brennauer said she would be competing in track and road events in Munich and then hoped to share her knowledge and experience in the sport in the future, possibly as a coach. -- dpa
