Oman U-17 team all set for West Asian Championships

Muscat: Oman U-17 football team is all set to kick off their opening match at the West Asian U-17 Championships against the hosts Jordan team on Tuesday. The team arrived in Amman city on Sunday after they completed a successful external camp in Kuwait. The preparatory abroad camp in Kuwait featured two friendly games against the hosts. Oman team managed to end both encounters on victory note as the first match finished at 1-0 while the following game ended at 3-1 late on Saturday. Oman’s Al Haitham al Shukaili was the top star in both warm up fixtures as he netted the winner in the first friendly game while he netted two goals in the second warm up fixture. The third goal was scored by Al Harith al Mashakyi.

In both preparatory games, the head coach Pablo Herrero Fernandez tested different faces to evaluate the readiness of the players ahead of West Asian event. Moreover, the coaching staff executed several tactical scenarios and finalised the starting line up ahead of Asian championships event. The friendly games against Kuwait acted as an opportunity for players to get into regional matches experience as the team played local games during the past few days. The team will have two more training sessions in Jordan venues ahead of beginning the first match of the tournament.

Oman team will start their first clash at West Asian U-17 Championships on Tuesday in Group A as they will meet the hosts Jordan in the opener. In the following game, Oman Junior team will face Iraq on Thursday. Then, Oman will conclude the group matches with an encounter against Yemen on Saturday. The West Asian U-17 Championships will be the primary official assignment for Spanish coach Pablo Herrero Fernandez, who began his career as head coach of the Oman national U-17 football team earlier this year. Coach Herrero Fernandez will target highly in this championship and secure advanced results.
