Oman edge Nepal in friendly, gear up for NZ fixture

MUSCAT: Oman national football team edged Nepal team 2-0 in a friendly game on Friday as apart of the overseas camp in Doha city, Qatar.

The 'Red Warriors’ goals were netted by Omar al Malki ahead of the completion of first half while Issam al Subhi doubled the result from penalty shoot out in the dying minutes.

The ongoing external warm up camp is part of the team’s actual preparations for the forthcoming Arabian Gulf Cup in Iraq, Basra city, and 2023 AFC Asian Cup.

Oman’s chief coach Branko Ivankovic began the match with a starting line up that featured Fayez al Rushaidi as the goalkeeper while Juma al Habsi led the defending line beside Khalid al Buraiki, Ahmed al Kaabi and Mahmood al Mushefari.

Harib al Saadi monitored the middle of the green field and he was accompanied by Arshad al Alawi, Yazeed al Mashani and Mohsin al Jahwari.

Mohsin al Ghassani and Omar al Malki were the both strikers in the forwarding line.

Coach Ivankovic maximised the output of the friendly fixture and he tested different faces who were opted by him in the squad.

The squad changed in the second half and comprised the following: Ahmed al Rawahi as a goalkeeper. In the backside, Mohammed al Musalami positioned defended alongside Ahmed al Khamisi, Fahmi Dorbeen and Mahmood al Mushefari.

In the centre line, Omar al Fazari was placed beside Ayman al Buraiki, Salah al Yahyaei and Jameel al Yahmadi. Zaher al Aghbari and Issam al Subhi led the striking line.

Oman team will conclude Qatar’s camp with a tight preparatory game against New Zealand on Thursday.

In previous comments raised by team manager Maqbool al Balushi, he said that the national team will take part in an international friendly tournament in Jordan in September.

The confirmed teams in the tournament till now are Oman, hosts Jordan, Iraq and a fourth team will be finalised and announced soon.

Also, he pointed out that Serbia will play against Oman ahead of their participation at the Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022 in November.

Serbia will face World No 1 ranked team Brazil in Group G at the World Cup besides Switzerland and Cameroon.
