Leading energy players to participate in IEEE Power Talks

While Oman’s power and energy sectors are undergoing a major shift towards the use of renewable energy sources and the adoption of innovations and technological advancements that will ensure overall efficiency to meet rising power demand, there are still several emerging challenges that the sectors are facing.

These challenges, plans, strategies, solutions and outlook will be discussed and presented by top regional power and energy industry experts and policymakers at the IEEE Power Talks Forum in the Sultanate of Oman from June 6 to 8, 2022.

The event’s technical committee, represented by prominent officials from the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), Nama Group, OQ, Majan Electricity Company, Tanweer, Muscat Electricity Distribution Company and Al Shawamikh Oil Services, has provided a direction that will offer a meaningful platform and an opportunity to discourse, share ideas, and build collaboration amid a swiftly evolving energy landscape.

IEEE Power Talks features a two-day conference with main topics such as Oman Energy Market Outlook, Renewables and Energy Storage Solutions, The Future of Power Grids, Energy Management and Efficiency, Asset Management and Optimisation alongside case studies and panel discussions.

It will feature renowned power and energy experts including Dr Amer al Hinai, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, SQU; Eng Abdulaziz S al Shidhani, Director General for Renewable Energy and Hydrogen — Ministry of Energy and Minerals; Yaqoob bin Saif al Kiyumi, CEO of Oman Power & Water Procurement Company; Dr Ralf Blumenthal, SVP and Head of Grid Software Middle East — Siemens and Dr Fahd Hashiesh, Global Director, Renewable Energy Centre of Excellence — Air Products.

The event is organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and supported by Oman Society of Engineers. Nama Group is the event Strategic Partner and Schneider Electric the Sustainability Partner, while the sponsor lineup includes Siemens, Solar Wadi, Safe Line and Fortescue Future Industries.

IEEE Power Talks will be inaugurated by Dr Ali bin Amer al Shidhani, Under-Secretary of Communications and IT, at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.
