Oman U-17 placed in tough group for AFC qualifiers

Muscat: The draw for the AFC U-17 Championship qualifiers on Tuesday placed Oman junior national team in Group C along with Qatar, Iraq, Bahrain and Lebanon.

Sultanate of Oman will host the Group C qualifiers in Muscat.

The Group A included defending champions Japan, Jordan, Syria, Philippines and Turkmenistan.

Group B consists Indonesia, Malaysia, Palestine, Guam and the UAE.

On the other hand, the Saudi team came in Group D along with India, Myanmar, Maldives and Kuwait. Group E features Yemen, Bangladesh, Singapore and Bhutan and Group F included Thailand, Vietnam, Chinese Taipei and Nepal.

China, champions of the 1992 and 2004 editions, play in Group G along with Australia, Cambodia and the Northern Mariana Islands.

Group H includes Tajikistan, Afghanistan, East Timor and Mongolia.

Iran, Hong Kong, Kyrgyzstan and Laos play in Group I.

Two-time winners South Korea came in Group J facing Brunei, 2012 champions Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka.

In AFC qualifiers, 44 teams are participating, divided into 10 groups, so that six groups included four teams, four groups included five teams, and qualifiers will be held during the period from October 1 to 9. The first placed team in each group will qualify for the finals, along with the five best second-placed teams.
