Ahmed Ali al Maamari, Vice President for Insurance Sector at the Capital Market Authority (CMA) and Chairman of health insurance team, said the health insurance scheme for private sector employees and visitors (Dhamani) is currently in an advanced stage of development. Significant headway has been made in the finalization of the legal frameworks, digital systems and medical coding aspects of the project.

He made the comments soon after meeting with representatives of various stakeholder bodies overseeing the development and implementation of the Dhamani scheme. They include the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labour, Public Authority for Social Security, Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Omani Insurance Association.

Al Maamari said the compulsory insurance for the employees of the private sector will contribute to creating great changes at the level of the heath and insurance economy with regard to the types of practices and attracting new specialisations and investments into the country. These changes will be manifest in the form of the expansion of the health insurance sector, growth of healthcare services, inflow of specialized healthcare brands and competencies, and so on.

The Dhamani platform will link insurance companies, private health institutions, health insurance third party claim administrators and the relevant government entities.

The meeting discussed the execution of the medical coding project based on accurate and comprehensive data to ease the billing process in accordance with international standards. The meeting also discussed the training of the employees dealing with the platform in the public and private sector health institutions and insurance companies
