MUSCAT: Eng Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, held an online meeting on Monday with Dr Amr Talaat, Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology.

Al Maawali expressed his delight over Oman’s winning of the 3rd edition of the Arab Digital Capital 2022 initiative. The first winner of the initiative was the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, followed by the Republic of Egypt in the second edition.

He also underscored Oman’s keenness on developing the communications and information technology sector through various initiatives that aim to enhance the sector’s infrastructure and legislation, and to groom institutional and individual abilities. Oman aims to increase digital awareness among all segments of society to move towards a digital economy based on Oman Vision 2040.

The meeting was attended by under-secretaries, experts and advisers representing the communications and information technology fields. It was also attended by representatives from Oman’s and Egypt’s foreign ministries, the Arab League and the Arab regional office of the International Telecommunication Union. - ONA
