First dates of the season

Muscat: The palm tree fruiting season has begun in the Wilayat of Nizwa in the Al Turath neighbourhood of the village of Farq.

Farmer Salem bin Saleh al Kindi said that the palm trees type of “Qash Qantara and Qash manoma” on his farm are considered early-starting date palms, due to the high air temperatures and the advanced “pollination” of the palm, which was sown last December.”

Al Kindi added that farmers in the Sultanate of Oman pay great attention to the date palm because of the multiple benefits they get from it and good economic returns.

The price of fresh dates at the beginning of its season is high and there is a great demand for it in the local markets. — ONA
