Oman to sight Shawwal crescent today

MUSCAT: The main committee for sighting the crescent of Shawwal for year 1443 AH, will convene today under the auspices of Shaikh Abdullah bin Mohammed al Salmy, Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, to receive reports on the sighting of the crescent.
Astronomical calculations conducted by the ministry have affirmed that the moon will be in the conjunction phase at 12:28 am on Sunday (Oman local time). On Sunday, the sun will set at 6:35 pm while the moon will descend at 11:07 pm (36 minutes after sunset) making it possible to sight the moon.
Eid on Monday in Saudi Arabia
Meanwhile, the Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted in Saudi Arabia on Saturday hence Eid Al Fitr will begin on Monday May 2, Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court said according to the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The UAE, Qatar, Iraq, Kuwait and Bahrain also announced that the first day of Eid al Fitr will be May 2, the International Astronomical Center said on Twitter.
