Salalah welcomes Wizz Air; more airlines resume flights from Muscat

MUSCAT: With the traditional water salute, Salalah Airport welcomed the first Wizz Air flight on Friday. The airline will operate two flights per week right through the Khareef season.
Salalah Airport achieved growth in the number of arriving passengers in the first quarter of this year by 89 per cent and departing passengers by 72 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Salim bin Awad al Yafei, Executive Vice-President of Salalah Airport, said that Oman airports have implemented all precautionary measures issued by the authorities, which allowed the gradual return of passengers and aircraft movement.
Al Yafei added that the Khareef season in the Governorate of Dhofar has been witnessing an increase in the number of visitors every year with the launch of new flights to Dhofar, as the governorate enjoys pleasant weather between mid-June and the end of September of each year.

The airline will connect its flights to Salalah Airport with its network of destinations - Alexandria (Egypt), Amman (Jordan), Aqaba (Jordan), Athens (Greece), Baku (Azerbaijan), Belgrade (Serbia), Kutaisi (Georgia), Manama (Bahrain), Mattala (Sri Lanka), Muscat (Oman), Sarajevo (Bosnia), Sohag (Egypt), Tel Aviv (Israel), Tirana (Albania) and Yerevan (Armenia) among others.

Meanwhile, several airlines resumed operations from Muscat International Airport last week, a statement from Oman Airports said.
Turkish Airlines started on the new route from Antalya to Muscat. The airline will operate two flights per week between Antalya International Airport and Muscat International Airport.
Spicejet resumed direct flights between Ahmedabad and Muscat by three flights per week, from April 26.
IndiGo Airlines resumed flights from Mumbai and Cochin to Muscat with one daily flight from each city, from April 25.
GoFirst resumed operations from Mumbai and Kannur to Muscat with three weekly flights from each city, from March 27.
