Four Syrian government soldiers are dead after an Israeli missile attack near Damascus, Syrian state media reported. Syria's official news agency Sana said, citing a military source, that the "Israeli enemy" had carried out a missile attack early on Wednesday, targeting points in the vicinity of Damascus.

It added that Syrian air defences had confronted the missiles and downed most of them. "Four soldiers were martyred and three others were injured in the aggression, which also caused some material damages," the agency said without elaborating. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a war monitor, confirmed the attack and said at least nine soldiers were killed and eight others were wounded, among them members from fighters. - AFP
