Muscat: Al Bashayer club lifted their maiden 2021-22 First Division League title after defeating Al Oruba 2-1 in a thrilling final clash on Saturday night at Seeb Stadium. Diyoob’s strike in 13th and 21st minutes delivered the historic title to Al Dakhiliyah-based team for the first time ever in history while the consolation goal of the opponent was netted by Abdullah Saleh in the 65th minute. Later, chief guest Eng Bader bin Saud al Zaidi, CEO of Vodafone Oman, gave away the medals and trophies. Al Bashayer club players received the gold medals and the league shield while Al Oruba players got the silver medals. The final match was witnessed by Shaikh Salim al Wahaibi, Chairman of Oman Football Association (OFA), in presence of officials and invitees. Al Bashayer and Al Oruba teams secured the final promotion spots in the 2021-22 Omantel League after they topped their groups in the final stage while Sur club joined them as third club to the top-flight league as they defeated Al Khabourah 1-0 in the play-off game.

In the first division final, both teams pressed hard from the start for an opening goal. Despite domination of Al Oruba, Al Bashayer managed to open the account as Diyoob found the opener in the 13th minute from a tight ground ball. Eight minutes later, Diyoob doubled the result after taking advantage from Al Oruba goalkeeper moving forward. Al Bashayer led 2-0 at the break. In the second half, Abdullah Saleh reduced the gap in the 65th minute. Later, Al Oruba’s players created different scoring attempts but failed to score the equaliser as the match ended in favour of Al Bashayer at 2-1. Hamed al Shaqsi, head coach of Al Bashayer club, said after the match that the team's progress to the top-tier league and clinching the league title for the first time came after hard work from everyone in the club. “We had a good collaboration from every member in the club starting from board directors, technical team, players efforts and continuous support from our loyal audience. This brought the accomplishment for the club,” he added. Al Shaqsi affirmed that the target is to be different at Omantel League and they aim to stay among the top teams. “We will set a different plan for the team to prepare properly for the next season,” he ended.
