Slashers claim Joyalukkas women's volley title

 
MUSCAT: Muscat Slashers edged Muscat Blazers 20-18, 20-17 in the final to claim the title in the first

edition of women's volleyball tournament organised by Joyalukkas Exchange and Instant cash at

Bausher Club indoor hall on March 25.

Sixteen teams took part in the one-day tournament that saw three preliminary rounds and one

knockout round along with semifinals, third-place play-off and final.

The teams included players of different nationalities including Omanis national team team.

The event was supported by POLO & OWWA (Embassy of Philippines) and OFW.

The tournament was the concluding event in line with the Women’s Month celebration by

Joyalukkas Exchange.

"We have conducted various activities at our branch level across the Sultanate. The

empowerment of women in all sections of the society is the main agenda by supporting women

in various sports and games," a Joy Alukkas statement said.

Ahmed Faisal al Jahdhami, Secretary-General, Oman Golf Association, was the chief guest of the

concluding ceremony who delivered the prices to the winners. Anthony Jos, Managing Director

Joyalukkas Exchange, was the special guest. The event was graced by Gregorio T Abalos, Jr -

Labor Attache Philippine Embassy, Nixon Baby – General Manager Joyalukkas Exchange, Nihas

Nourdheen - Country Head, Instant Cash, Mumthaz al Balushi, Omani sports person, Punnose

Mathew, General Manager UAE Exchange.

Organising committee spokesperson Ansar Shensthar, Manager Operations, said: This type of

sports event will be continued to be organised by Joyalukkas Exchange to empower women in

our society and for their socio-cultural development. This was also one of the biggest

tournaments conducted by an exchange house in Oman."

In the semifinals, Muscat Blazers beat All Star 18-13 while Slashers prevailed over The Heat by

the same margin.

The Heat finished as second runners-up in the tournament after beating All Star 18-15 in the

play-off.

Among individual awards, Darb claimed the Most Valuable Player honour. Abby was the best

setter, Apple became the best spiker and Maan was selected as the best server of the

tournament.
