900 archeological sites found in Duqm, 155 in Nufon

DUQM: The Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ), in cooperation with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and the Institute of Archaeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences, identified, through excavation studies, various archaeological sites in the Wilayat of Duqm, Governorate of Al Wusta.
The teams of archaeologists and specialists from the institute have been studying several archaeological sites and human settlements in Duqm in general and the village of Nufon, located in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD).

The identified archaeological sites reached 155 in Nufon and about 900 other sites all over Duqm, discovered between 2015 and 2022.
The archaeological studies and research conducted by the specialised team that came from the Czech Republic, the USA, Ukraine, Italy, France and Germany, focused on the village of Nufon which is characterised by the existence of an ancient human settlement.
In addition, the archaeologist team excavated the mass graves of the Iron Age and discovered the Trilith stone monuments and the coastal settlement of rocky hills.
Specialists also studied the stone tools used in the old Stone Age in the Wilayat of Duqm. OPAZ documented these settlements of ancient humans dating back to the Iron Age to provide the necessary protection for those archaeological monuments. — ONA
