The Muscat Municipality has embarked on a campaign against insect breeding, targeting the vulnerable areas to control the spread of pest-borne diseases.
The campaign, carried out as part of its seasonal pest abatement process, aims at mosquito breeding sites and all neighbourhoods that are unhygienic, allowing pests, rodents and other creatures to breed and spread diseases.
'We call upon all community members to adopt hygiene practices to eliminate the breeding environment and take part in the anti-communicable diseases campaign,' a message from the Muscat Municipality said.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) has revealed to Oman evidence and data that suggest that Covid-19 will turn into a seasonal virus such as seasonal influenza, which may happen by the end of this year.
Dr Ahmed al Mandhari, Director of the WHO for the Eastern Mediterranean, had earlier pointed out that the facts suggest that the virus that causes Covid-19 would turn into a seasonal virus such as seasonal influenza.
It may happen by the end of this year if countries succeed in achieving vaccination targets and continue to adhere to preventive measures and public health measures concerning the mutant Omicron.
'It cannot be definitively stated that it will be the last of the mutant for many reasons, the most important of which is the nature of viruses and their permanent activity, which generates the emergence of a new mutant, and we must be prepared for all the possibilities for countries to enhance their genetic sequencing capabilities to be able to detect mutations in a timely manner,' Dr Mandhari said.
However, the epidemic in the Sultanate of Oman has curved downward, with the recovery rate approaching 99 per cent. The registration of daily infections is below 100 for the first time in more than a month, and the Ministry of Health (MoH) announced on Monday that 122 daily cases of Covid-19 were recorded within the last 24 hours, while 180 recoveries were reported. The recovery graph is the most favourable trend this week.
