Al Khair Waafi in association with the Al Rahma Association for Motherhood and Childhood has announced a major initiative to provide support to the orphans and the less privileged people in the country.
The Sultanate of Oman has nearly 1,600 orphans in various wilayats who need their livelihood and with this project, all their needs including their schooling, during the holy month of Ramadhan and during the two Eid days, will be cared for.
Accordingly, a sustainable project residential and commercial building will be built and the monthly proceeds would be used to serve the programmes directed towards the orphans and provide for their needs on a permanent basis.
'This initiative comes from the belief of Al Rahma Association for Motherhood and Childhood in providing for the needs of deserving categories and the importance of supporting voluntary efforts in our beloved country,' Ruqaya al Maani, head of the initiative, said.
The building will come up on the land obtained by the Association under a usufruct contract from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning in Al Mawaleh where the returns from the building will be allocated to finance the programmes designated for orphans registered with Al Rahma Association for Motherhood and Childhood.
'Areej Mohsin has allocated RO 300,000 towards the project and we are aiming to cover the rest of the cost of the initiative and both public and private sectors are welcome to join hands,' she added.
The modes of raising funds include monthly sponsorship of RO 30 to RO 50 and Eid and school clothing, besides vouchers being issued against select denominations.
Donations can be made to the initiative by purchasing coupons worth RO 5 and RO 25 which are sold at Muscat Mall, City Centre, Al Araimi Boulevard and Muscat Grand Mall from Thursday, March 10 to Friday March 25.
The coupons may also be purchased by bank transfer to Bank Muscat account (an account designated for the Al Khair Waafi Initiative: 0301018630570028 and sending the receipt to the telephone number: 91713274.

The initiative’s goals include strengthening the idea of volunteering and social solidarity, involvement of community categories in voluntary work, and contributing to the funding of charitable programmes for the benefit of orphans registered with Al Rahma Association for Motherhood and Childhood.
Al Khair Waafi Initiative was established by a group of Omani women entrepreneurs and Omani women who have experience in social service and a successful business career in order to support charitable work.
The donations towards charity in the first edition in 2018 recorded a total amount of RO 62,466.720, which was allocated to 2, 270 orphans of Al Rahma Association for Motherhood and Childhood while the second edition in 2019 fetched a total amount of RO 131,214.950 to support 3,420 orphans enrolled with three charitable associations, namely, Al Rahma Association for Motherhood and Childhood, Al Bahja Association for Orphans in Salalah and Dar Al Atta’ Association.
The current version of social support aims to implement a sustainable project through the donations from active partners from private and public companies and philanthropists, whereas the proceeds of the commercial building after its establishment will be allocated for the provision of the needs of orphans in the Sultanate of Oman.
