Workshop on kingfish management organised

Muscat: The Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources on Monday organised a workshop on managing the fishing areas of kingfish in the GCC countries.
Held via videoconferencing, the workshop was held under the auspices of Eng Yaqoub Khalfan al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources for Fisheries, with participation of representatives from the GCC countries and specialists from the ministry.
The workshop aims at assessing the status of fish stocks and the GCC fishing areas of kingfish, in addition to discussing recommendations necessary for applying alternatives and optimal options to adopt the principle of sustainability for these fishing areas for future generations.
The Permanent Committee for Fisheries in the GCC Secretariat General has approved to organise this workshop in the Sultanate of Oman, as it hosts the electronic programme to monitor the landing of kingfish in the GCC countries since 2014. The workshop also aimed at discussing the outcomes of this programme and the final report about it.
