MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has joined the rest of the GCC countries to mark the GCC Consumer Protection Week, on March 1-7.

Salim bin Ali al Hakmani, Chairman of CPA, said the CPA’s participation in the GCC Consumer Protection Week comes within the framework of joint GCC action and aims at increasing consumers’ awareness about their rights and duties, acquainting suppliers with their responsibilities towards consumers with a view to expanding consumer protection umbrella and realizing joint cooperation.

Al Hakmani said: “Within the framework of marking the GCC Consumer Protection Week, the CPA will organize several awareness-raising events in various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman in conjunction with the ongoing Anti-Fraud Campaign ‘stick to the original’ with activities continuing until the end of this month. The implementation campaign followed the issuance of the GCC Anti-Commercial Fraud Law. The law aims to strengthen the legal system to protect markets from harmful practices and provide more protection for consumers. A number of lectures, exhibitions and awareness convoys will be carried out at commercial centres. Besides, a number of workshops and seminars will be organized to introduce the law to consumers.” — ONA
