AIPU meet stresses need to strengthen solidarity among Arab parliaments

CAIRO: The Council of Oman concluded its participation in the 32nd Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), which was held on February 17-18 in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

The Council of Oman took part in the meetings of the conference’s preparatory committee and the standing committees.

Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed al Nadabi, Secretary-General of Majlis Ash’shura, took part in the 39th meeting of the Association of Secretaries-General of Arab Parliaments which approved the draft budget for the fiscal year 2022 and the financial report for 2021.

The conference stressed the need to strengthen solidarity among Arab parliaments and their support to the causes of the region’s peoples at the conclusion of the 32nd conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU).

During the conference, the AIPU honoured a number of Arab parliamentarians with the Parliamentary Excellence Award. Salim bin Ali al Kaabi, a member of Majlis Ash’shura, received the Parliamentary Excellence Award in recognition for his distinguished experience in legislative work at Majlis Ash’shura, the AIPU and the Arab Parliament.

The Sultanate of Oman’s delegation to the conference was headed by Shaikh Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis Ash’shura.

The delegation comprised Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed al Nadabi, Secretary-General of Majlis Ash’shura, Dr Rashid bin Salim al Badi, member of the State Council, Salim bin Ali al Kaabi, Dr Hamood bin Ahmed al Yahyai, Ahmed bin Salim al Ibrahim, Ahmed bin Nasser al Abri and Mohammed bin Khalfan al Asmi, Assistant Deputy Secretary-General for Sessions Affairs at Majlis Ash’shura.

4TH ARAB PARLIAMENT CONFERENCE

Meanwhile, the Sultanate of Oman, represented by Majlis Ash’shura, took part in the 4th Conference of Arab Parliament and Heads of Arab Councils and Parliaments, held at the headquarters of the Arab League in the Egyptian capital Cairo.

The Sultanate of Oman’s delegation was headed by Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis Ash’shura.

The conference debated a document prepared by the Arab Parliament under the title “An Arab Parliamentary Vision for Achieving Security and Stability and Advancing the Current Arab Reality”. The draft document will be submitted to the next Arab summit at the level of Arab leaders for approval.

The draft document deals with the most prominent challenges facing the Arab countries and the role that can be played by the Arab parliamentarians to devise an Arab parliamentary vision to overcome the setbacks facing the Arab nation.

Adel Abdulrahman al Asoomi, President of the Arab Parliament, stressed the importance of the conference as it is convening at a crucial time in light of the exceptional circumstances and conditions that the Arab nation is going through and the huge challenges it faces at the internal and external levels.

At the end of the conference, the president of the Arab Parliament pointed to the necessity of activating the role of the Arab parliamentary diplomacy in addressing these challenges out of belief in the unity of the common destiny which requires strengthening Arab solidarity and developing mechanisms for joint Arab action at all levels. — ONA
