‘Al Dhabi’ grabs Mercedes-Benz and golden sword

Muscat: 'Al Dhabi' camel claimed the top honours in the Festival of Excellence held at the Al Batha camel race track in Al Mudhabi on Thursday.

Khalid bin Salem Al Ghassani, Advisor to the Ministry of Culture Sports and Youth, presided over the camel festival in the presence of Abdullah bin Saud al Anzi, Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Oman, and a number of shaikhs.

The competition was sponsored by Sahara Sands Oil and Gas Company, owned by Al Shaik Ali bin Salem bin Al Daham al Wahaibi

The event started with the start of the main race for 1,500 metres for Bkar (female category). 'Al Dhabi', owned by Salim bin Rashid Al Ghalani, completed the race in 2 minutes to claim the Mercedes-Benz and golden sword.

The second race was for Gadan (male category), where the 'Al Malioon', owned by Hamed bin Sultan Al Ghafi, finished on top in 2.2 minutes.

'Mathkorah', owned by Said bin Bakhet Al Mahri claimed the third race in 2.5 minutes.

In the last main race for Bakar, 'Mamdoh' won for Ahmed bin Hamoud al Wahibi in 2.7 minutes.

Said bin Nasir al Zarai, coach of the ‘Al Dhabi’ was elated after winning the top honours.

'We had prepared hard for this festival for one year. It was our goal. We were lucky enough to win the main race and take the Mercedes-Benz and the golden sword,' Said al Zarai said.

The coach thanked the organising committee for its excellent conduct of the competition and appreciated Al Shaik Ali bin Salem bin al Daham al Wahaibi's continuous support for the sport.

The competition continued in the evening, as it was in 25 races for both Bkar and Gadan (male and

female category) for 1,500 metres.

At the end of the races, the chief guest handed out the prizes to the top winners.
