Oman head coach Branko Ivankovic appreciated the players after their top show against Australia on Tuesday after the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

“I am really proud of the players as they produced top performance against the Asian top side Australia. I am fully satisfied with the technical performance of the players. Oman players proved that they can play at same level against top teams like Australia,” Branko told after the match.

The draw ended Oman’s hopes in advancing to the play-off spot in the Asian qualifiers — Road to Qatar 2022.

The Croatian coach opined that the match was not easy for both teams. “The opponents are a strong team as they feature top international and experienced players. We had many absences in the squad due to positive cases of Covid-19 besides to injury of experienced mid-fielder Harib al Saadi,” he said.

The 68-year-old commented on the team’s poor show during the first half.

“Our players respected the opponents a lot and during the break, I talked to my players for some new rules and instructions. This led to an improved performance in the second half,” he added.

ROLE OF CLUBS

Ivankovic also delivered an important message to the domestic clubs in the Sultanate of Oman.

“Proper establishment of any player should start from the club. The domestic clubs have a vital role for the players development as we get less time for internal camps due to the impact of the epidemic.”

Oman’s hero Abdullah Fawaz, who scored a brace, gave the credit to his teammates.

“Thanks to all the players for the massive efforts made during the game. We delivered top performance but could not achieve the triumph. We managed to play strong match against Australia and aimed to finish the fixture on better result than the draw,” he said. Fawaz also wished a speed recovery for all the players who are Covid positive and others who are injured.
