The drop in temperature has prompted people to use heating equipment more.
But unfortunately, there has also been an increase in the number of accidents involving room and water heaters for domestic purposes, according to the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA).
“During the winter, there has been an increase in accidents involving geysers and room heaters.
“This underlines the need for manufacturers to adhere to stringent standards and suppliers to represent efficient products’’, said a top official at the CDAA.
“However, this also clearly indicates that the end-users should follow some precautions while using the heating instruments’’, he added.
According to him, one should use high-quality geysers and those approved as per GCC specifications.
In addition, the supply of power should not be on while using warm water.
“Be conscious of switching off the geyser when you’re using the warm water as chances are high to get a direct electric shock from the device through the water. Secondly, be watchful that the product complies with GCC standards’’, the CDAA representative said.
One should also be mindful of regular maintenance of heater connections and the cleanliness of every part of it regularly.
The CDAA mandate on safety suggests the uninterrupted flow of running water into the water heater to avoid the chances of a fire in the heaters.
“If you suspect any power leakage
in the line, disconnect the power line immediately.” He also cautioned to
|ensure that temperature settings should not exceed 60 degrees for the safe usage of geysers.
