Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) announced on Wednesday that the Sultanate of Oman was named as the host of the 2022 Women’s Asia Cup.
The Asian event will take place from January 21 until 28 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. Nine teams will take part in the tournament and vie for the prestigious title including China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and the hosts Sultanate of Oman.
The tourney will be held in the Sultanate of Oman for the first time and it is in line with the Oman Hockey Association's (OHA) strategies to boost women's hockey activities and initiatives.
Dr. Marwan Juma al Juma, OHA chairman, said that the Women’s Asia Cup is one of the top significant events in the region. “I am very delighted with hosting of this major championship. I believe hosting of the Asian event will bring a lot of positive impact and improve the state of Omani women's hockey. Establishing a new women's hockey team is one of the plans beside organising many courses and workshops including first coaching course. A special thanks to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for their support and assistance,” he ended.
In last June, Sultanate of Oman had won the rights to host the first ever FIH Hockey5s World Cups (Men and Women) which is scheduled to be played in January 2024.
