The British Embassy in the Sultanate of Oman is offering funding support for proposals that deliver in-country projects focusing on green initiatives.
An announcement to this effect came on Thursday, against the backdrop of the COP26 Climate Conference that concluded in Glasgow over the weekend. The UK, alongside Italy, hosted the Summit, which was attended by world leaders seeking to deliver on the Paris Agreement and secure global net zero by 2050.
“Climate change affects us all and we must all take steps to tackle it. Oman Vision 2040 has outlined Oman’s ambition for climate protection and sustainable development. The British Embassy wants to support these aims by working with a number of partners to deliver in-country projects focusing on green initiatives which will have demonstrable effect and long-term sustainable impact in Oman,” the Embassy said in a statement.
The objective, it noted, is to support as many local projects that demonstrate positive effect on green initiatives within Oman.
Preference will be given to proposals from partners who have an ability to deliver projects locally within the Sultanate of Oman that, among other things, educate and increase awareness of climate issues and promote positive action, as well as support research initiatives focused on the environment and effects in the country, it said.
Consideration will also be given to projects focusing on environmental protection, long term preservation and recycling. Initiatives that promote accelerator programmes or other initiatives which are focused on offering green solutions, as well as those that support women and youth engagement will be welcomed, it added.
“We are inviting bids of up to £500,000 (approx. RO 250,000), the Embassy said, adding that project proposals must be submitted by Wednesday, November 24, 2021.
