Mahawar felicitated for support to hockey festivals

MUSCAT: The Indian national hockey festivals organising committee members felicitated outgoing Indian ambassador Munu Mahawar recently.

The Indian ambassador was given a farewell by the Team Coorg Muscat And Friends of Naqvi Group, who jointly organise hockey festivals on the India's Republic Day, Independence Day and the National Sports Day dedicated as the Dhyan Chand Day. These events were organised for the past 15 years under the patronage of Embassy of India and in coordination with the Oman Hockey Association at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.

Mahawar praised the contribution of the organising committee, specially its veteran chief SAS Naqvi for the promotion of Indo-Oman sports since 1982. The ambassador urged the committee to continue its work to strengthen the Indo-Oman sports relations.

Mahawar was presented a bouquet and a memento in appreciation for his support for various initiatives during the tenure in the Sultanate.

Naqvi and Irfan Ahmed felicitated the ambassador on behalf of the organising committee. Jaypal Dethe, second secretary at the embassy, was present during the function.

Mahawar will soon resume charge as the Indian High Commissioner of Maldives. Naqvi expressed gratitude for some personal recognitions during his tenure including the Indo-Oman Sports Friendship Award in 2019 as well as recommending for the Padma Shri Award for 2022.

The octogenarian hockey personality wished Mahawar great success in his new assignment as the Indian High Commissioner in Maldives.
