The Australian Business Group Oman (ABGO) members, and Omani alumni met at ABGO’s Back-to-Business briefing session and networking event at the Grand Hyatt Muscat last week.

The focus of the event was ABGO’s programme called ‘ABGO Connect,’ an initiative developed and overseen by ABGO.

The main goal of ABGO Connect is to facilitate business and commercial opportunities between Australia and the Sultanate of Oman, while strengthening bilateral relations.

Mustafa Salman, Australian Honorary Consul, opened the event and noted that “Omani students are the future of relationships between Australia and Oman, and ABGO Connect is extremely important for that.”

Mac Thomson, Chair of ABGO, in his address gave an introduction about ABGO Connect and encouraged the alumni to get involved as “they already have the common ground and relatability with Australia, which will help them form business synergies faster and more effectively which will benefit the employment of Omanis across a variety of sectors”. There were also many positive comments from the alumni who attended.

Mohammed al Bahri, a Monash University graduate, noted that he is “excited for Omani businesses to form connections with experienced Australian companies and work together.”

The formal proceedings were followed as members and alumni expressed interest in ABGO Connect. The ABGO Executive Committee is confident that there will be many more success stories from this programme.
