MUSCAT: The Covid-19 Field Hospital for coronavirus patients received 2,529 coronavirus patients since its opening on October 6, 2020, till end-July 2021, said Dr Nabil bin Mohammed al Lawati, Senior Consultant, Respiratory and Sleep Disorders and director of the field hospital.
The rate of coronavirus patients entering the field hospital a day varied depending on the epidemiological situation reaching 30 patients a day on peak periods, however, with the decrease in Covid-19 wave, the number dropped ranged between 2 and 5 people a day. Likewise, coronavirus patients being admitted to the field hospital goes up and down depending on the daily caseload, Al Lawati said.
The Covid-19 Field Hospital for coronavirus patients, situated in the now-defunct Muscat international airport, plays a pivotal role in combating Covid-19. The hospital was established by joint efforts of several public and private entities including the Ministry of Health, Royal Court Affairs, Royal Oman Police, Civil Aviation Authority, Oman Airports, Petroleum Development Oman and other relevant bodies.
The idea behind the establishment of the field hospital is to reduce the load on the public and the private hospitals and allow them to perform their routine work in treating non-coronavirus patients.
