Every house a piece of art in Imti village makeover

An Omani village is undergoing an artistic makeover and drawing international attention, thanks to the efforts of artists supported by local residents as well as good Samaritans.
Imti, in the wilayat of Izki in Al Dakhiliyah governorate, is characterised by its archaeological significance but was quite unknown to a traveller at least until the project of the Oman Society for Fine Arts (OSFA) three years ago.
'I'm glad that the Imti project has been garnering international attention as an artistic tourist destination where all my artistic experience and experiments of over 40 years have been put together with the support of the local artists,' said Maryam al Zadjali.
Most of the houses in this village have been transformed into a piece of art in accordance with the guidance from the artists. They, side by side, run small restaurants and cafés offering breakfast and coffee as a value addition to this area for the visitors and the support from the local community is overwhelming, according to Maryam.
Under the art project titled 'Imty with Colours of Goodness', many acclaimed artists came together with their brushes and palettes to give the village a new identity that derives its beauty and strength from the elements of the local environment.
'I'm thankful to the private companies and the Ministry of Heritage and Culture for the support being extended to the project,'said Maryam.
Under the event titled ‘Let’s Draw Together’, artists from OSFA, namely Anwar Sonia, Salim Sakhi, Abdulkarim al Maimani, Nayla al Maamari, Yousuf al Nahawi, Issa al Mafraji and Saleh al Alawi, besides those from the Samat Artistic group participated in the event under the guidance of Shaikh Masoud bin Ali al Sulaimi.
In order to reach out to more visitors and to more regions a photographic competition for all Omani photographers is arranged.
They can visit the village and take pictures of the village and enter the contest. The images they capture will be shared online.
