Tanweer upgrades Masirah’s power grid

The Rural Areas Electricity Company (Tanweer) — a member of Nama Group — continues its efforts to raise the electricity grid’s reliability in the Wilayat of Masirah in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate with a RO 186,340 project. The new project upgrades Al Nahdha area network — in Masirah — by adding a 6MVA transformer to the existing Dowa primary sub-station, and the related works, including the laying an 11-kilovolt underground cable to the current ring main unit (RMU) to ensure the sustainability of the electricity infrastructure.

The new enhancement was designed to reinforce the existing feeders to meet the growing demand in the area and enhance the reliability of the power supply in the Wilayat of Masirah, which enjoys distinctive tourist and economic features.

Tanweer’s project consists of two main components. The first is laying a new 11kv underground cable from Dowa primary substation to the distribution substation (Al Nahdha area) with a total length of 15 km.

And the second component is the supply and installation of a 6MVA transformer, 11KV PMR- 1 Nos and 33kv and 11kv gantry.

Upgrading Masirah electricity grid is among the numerous projects undertaken by Tanweer to raise the efficiency and reliability of the electricity networks in its areas of operation in the Sultanate to meet the increasing demand for electricity for residential, commercial and investment purposes in different governorates.
