Oman and Sri Lanka to bolster trade ties

As part of its constant efforts to enhance bilateral trade ties with the countries around the region and beyond, the Sultanate of Oman represented by the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) in association with the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) is organising a three-phase Business Forum on Wednesday, July 7, on a virtual platform.

'The first ever Business Forum of its kind to be held between the national chambers of the two friendly countries is part of our ongoing drive to enhance mutual trade relations between countries in the region and beyond,' said Redha bin Juma al Saleh, Chairman of the OCCI board.

The first-ever 'three-in-one' business meeting aimed primarily at boosting export-import relations and explore B2B opportunities will see representatives of leading business houses specialised in health, agriculture, food, farming, tourism, boat building, fisheries, garments and ICT in both Oman and Sri Lanka meeting online and exploring Avenues for mutual cooperation.

'Representatives of business communities from both countries including exporters, importers as well as investors, could make use of this opportunity to ascertain market information and to establish potential business links with their counterparts,' Ameer Ajwad,

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Sultanate of Oman told the Observer.

Besides, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Chambers of Commerce of Oman and Sri Lanka will be virtually signed to promote business cooperation between the private sectors of both countries followed by a virtual business forum and a B2B matchmaking session.

The Chairperson of the NCCSL will ceremonially sign the MoU in the presence of the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Sri Lanka at the NCCSL premises in Colombo and by the Chairperson of the OCCI in the presence of Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Sultanate of Oman at the OCCI premises in Muscat.

The business forum will be addressed by the representatives/resource persons of the NCCSL, Board of Investment (BOI), Export Development Board (EDB) and Sri Lanka Association for Software and Services Companies (SLASSCOM). Representatives/ resource persons from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, and Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones will address the Business Forum representing the Omani side. The Forum is open to all who are interested in exploring business opportunities in both countries.

The third segment will be the B2B matchmaking between Omani companies and their Sri Lankan counterparts who make prior registration with the NCCSL and the OCCI. The focused sectors for the B2B matchmaking include health, agriculture, food, farming, tourism, boat building, fisheries, garments and ICT. Both Omani and Sri Lankan companies who wish to participate in this virtual B2B matchmaking can register themselves by accessing the barcodes provided by the NCCSL and the OCCI on their websites.
