MUSCAT: The head coach of Oman’s beach soccer national team, Talib Hilal, named on Sunday a list of 14 players who will take part in the forthcoming domestic and overseas camp to Dubai, UAE.
The seven-day internal camp will begin from June 19 to 27 at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex and it will be followed by an overseas camp in Dubai city from June 19 to 27. Both preparatory camps are part of the team’s actual preparation for the global assignment at Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup Russia 2021. The finals are set to be held from August 19 to 29.
Coach Talib Hilal’s men will take part in an international friendly tournament during the second external camp in Dubai. The long-serving coach and his assistant coaching staff aim to utilise the friendly matches for match exposure ahead of the world championship.
Also, the international preparatory event will act as an official test for the players to assess their readiness for the upcoming tough encounters.
This is the second overseas training camp for the beach soccer national team after the one-week Morocco camp which was held last month. The Morocco camp featured two vital friendly games against Morocco team. The Sultanate’s team had suffered a 5-2 loss in the first preparatory game while they registered a 3-1 win in the second friendly game. Abdullah al Souti scored two goals and Khalid al Oraimi netted the opening goal for Oman.
As the showpiece beach soccer event is approaching, the technical coaching staff of the Sultanate team is focusing on developing the players technical skills and fitness. The preparatory plan will feature many training sessions besides friendly matches against tough international teams to shape the players for the global beach soccer event.
The Sultanate’s beach soccer team had participated in Beach Soccer World Cup in Ravenna city in Italy in 2011 and in Portugal in 2015. The third participation of the team was at the Beach Soccer World Cup in Paraguay in December 2019. The Oman team had registered a crucial win against Nigeria. The national team had suffered two losses against Portugal and Brazil.
The players list was the same for the last overseas camp in Morocco except Amjad al Hamdani and Shareef al Balushi who are absent in the new list.
