Bahrain edge Oman U-23 team in friendly

Oman Olympic (U-23) football team suffered to a 1-0 defeat against Bahrain Olympic team in the first preparatory match late on Saturday at Khalifa Sports city Stadium in Manama. The only goal in the match was netted by Bahrain’s Saleh Mohammed in the dying minutes of the match. The second warm-up match between both teams will take place on Tuesday at the same venue.

The international friendly mach was the first official test game for the team since the absence during last year period due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Also, it was the initial official match for the Croatian coach Dario Basic since his appointment earlier last year. Despite the loss, the Olympic team players delivered good show and managed to create many scoring attempts. Coach Basic did many substitutions in the second half to test different faces in the squad. It is expected that the coach will have different starting line-up to test the performance of each player in the squad.

The U-23 players are undergoing an overseas camp in Bahrain for 19 days since May 21. The camp is part of team’s preparation for the Asian Olympic Qualifiers that will take place in October. The finals of the AFC Asian (U-23) will be held in September 2022 in Uzbekistan during September 6 to 25. The camp is focusing on improving the fitness and physical sides of the team members after the long break since last appearance in March. The team players are having two training sessions daily including gymnasium training in morning sessions while implementing some tactical practices during evening sessions.
