Taha al Kishry to continue as FINA board member for successive term

Oman’s Taha al Kishry remained in his position as a board member in the world swimming governing body, FINA, bureau for the second successive term while Kuwait’s Hussain al Musallam elected as the first Gulf, Arab and Asian president of the International Swimming Federation (Fina) during the general congress of Fina in Doha on Saturday.

Al Kishry’s triumph in the election came due to his huge sporting expertise at domestic, regional and international levels. Taha al Kishry has huge exposure in the sports and swimming field with an experience of more than 40 years in sports.

Oman Swimming Association (OSA) president and Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) secretary general stated that FINA will do the required support to the national member associations. “ We will utilize our presence in FINA to provide full assistance to all the member associations and enable them to organise and host different aquatic activities and programs according to the approved calendar and agenda of FINA every year,” he added

The Secretary General of Asian Swimming Federation appreciated all the positive efforts made by Qatar Swimming Association to host the General Congress of Fina in Doha. “ A dedicated thanks to Qatar Swimming Association for the well organisation of the top FINA meeting under robust and safe COVID-19 protocol and implementing all the precautionary measures against Covid,” he concluded.

As many as 221 national associations took part in the General Congress of Fina. A 119 National associations attended the meeting physically in Doha, respecting a robust and safe COVID-19 protocol, while another 102 National Federations attended virtually through advanced communication platforms. Oman’s delegation in the meeting was represented by Tariq bin Salim al Hashmi, the VP of Oman Swimming Association.

With an experience of more than 40 years in sports, Taha had served in different positions in many sporting associations and committees at domestic, regional and international levels. He is currently the Secretary-General of OOC since 2013 and chairman of OSA since 2009. He was the Secretary General of Oman Football Association (OFA) from 2008 to 2009. In the swimming field, he is a member of the Executive Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) since 2019, the director-general of AASF since 2016 and Arab Swimming Chairman since 2013 till today.
