MUSCAT: Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy on Friday received a phone call from Dr Anthony Blinken, US Secretary of State.
The leaders discussed the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and affirmed their cooperation in various fields, which contributes to achieving more mutual benefits.
The two sides also exchanged views on the sustainability of the ceasefire in occupied Palestinian Territories and mobilising support for reconstruction in the Gaza Strip and endeavours to achieve peace in the Middle East.
In this regard, Sayyid Badr expressed the Sultanate’s appreciation for the efforts of the United States, which contributed to achieving a ceasefire and reconstruction efforts, stressing the Sultanate’s firm position on the centrality of the Palestinian issue to the stability of the region.
He also touched on the necessity of enabling the Palestinian people to realise their legitimate aspirations to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the principle of the two-state solution.
On the Yemeni crisis, Blinken said the United States appreciates the Sultanate’s efforts in support of the American envoy to Yemen Tim Landerking and UN envoy Martin Griffiths.
Both sides stressed the importance to intensify efforts to reach a cessation of war and military operations through peace talks. The need to provide humanitarian aid to the Yemeni people also figured in their talks. — ONA
