Khoula Hospital successfully performs seventh nerve surgery

 
Muscat: To keep pace with the scientific progress, particularly in the microscopic procedures, a unit for the seventh nerve surgeries has been allocated in Khoula Hospital under the supervision of Dr. Shaikhan Al-Hashmi, Senior Consultant Plastic & Head of Plastic Surgery Department.

The specialized team in the Hospital has recently cured the seventh nerve of a six-year girl child in two phases. The first phase was performed by transplant the nerve in the infected half of her face, while the second phase by transplant a muscle tissue from the thigh to the infected part of the face by the microscopic procedure.

Six months later, the child has moved her paralyzed part of her face for the first time since her birth. Al-Hashmi pointed out that the seventh nerve surgeries also include other procedures such as restore the ability to close the eye, as well as to smile. The child's parents expressed their thanks to the hospital and praised the medical care provided for their child.
