Municipality inks pact to move Central Market to Khazaen Economic City

Municipality is considering converting the current market activity into a retail market only

Muscat: Muscat Municipality and Khazaen Economic City on Sunday have signed an agreement to transfer storage and wholesale activities of vegetables and fruits from the Central Market of Vegetables and Fruits in Al Mawaleh area to Khazaen Economic City.

The new market will stretch over an area of 800,000 square meters, at a total cost of up to RO 43 million. The construction will commence in 2022.

The pact signed between the two entities will contribute to regulating the wholesale business of vegetables and fruits and reducing the movement of trucks in the Governorate of Muscat.

Meanwhile, the Municipality is considering converting the current market activity into a retail market only, with the addition of some other commercial components.
