MUSCAT: The Sultanate, represented by the Ministry of Health, in cooperation with the World Health Organization, hosted a high-level meeting via video conferencing on public health for peace. The meeting aimed to review regional countries’ experiences in fighting Covid-19 and the pivotal role of health cooperation in boosting relationships between the region’s countries.
The meeting also aims to enhance and exchange expertise in health cooperation within the context of the response to Covid-19, and encourage more cooperation between countries to shed light on the huge capability of utilizing the neutral aspect of health as a bridge to peace.
The meeting discussed a number of topics including the successful health interventions in peacebuilding and continued cooperation efforts in the Middle East region which can be used for boosting stability in the region.
This is in addition to leveraging capacities on the regional level for manufacturing medicines and pharmaceutical products (including vaccines) and exploring the extent of international cooperation in this regard.
Delivering a speech at the meeting, Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Saeedi, Minister of Health and head of the meeting, underscored the importance of exerting more efforts to achieve cooperation and solidarity to keep peace particularly in the Middle East region, confirming the need to continue working with the partners in Switzerland in their call for the international health initiative for peacebuilding.
