Muscat: The Oman Swimming Association (OSA) will take part in the general congress of Fina, the international swimming governing body, which will take place in Doha on June 5 and will include election for the new board.
On the other hand, Kuwait’s Hussain al Musallam will become the first Gulf, Arab and Asian president of the International Swimming Federation (Fina) after Italian Paolo Barelli withdrew from the race for the chairmanship. The announcement came recently from Italian Swimming Federation (FIN) to support Al Musallam to lead the Fina.
Oman and Arab Swimming Association chairman, Taha al Kishry, will be among the competitors for Fina board member position. Taha’s chances will raise to be re-elected for the position as board member of Fina due to his rich experience in the field of the secretary-general of the Oman Olympic committee (OOC) and Director- General of Asian Swimming Federation (AASF). Al Kishry was elected as Fina member in 2017.
Taha al Kishry's huge exposure in the field will assist him to be reelected for a second time in a row. With an experience of more than 40 years in sports, Taha had served in different positions in many sporting associations and committees at domestic, regional and international levels.
He is the currently the Secretary-General of OOC since 2013 and chairman of OSA since 2009. He was the Secretary-General of Oman Football Association (OFA) from 2008 to 2009. In swimming field, he is a member of Executive Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) since 2019, the director-general of AASF since 2016 and Arab Swimming Chairman since 2013 till today.
The Sultanate, represented by OSA, had hosted the 14th AASF General Congress of the Asian Swimming Federation (AASF) in last November.
