MUSCAT, DEC 31 - Young Omanis, about to ring in the New Year, are optimistic. Besides expecting better opportunities, they are aiming higher on academic front too. Manal Fatmi, a seventh year student of National University, said 2019 is going to be the year when she graduates and enters the world of professional life.
“This year marks the start of the final few months before I graduate and enter a new world of professional life. I’m expecting that 2019 will include lots of first-time experiences,” she said. Andalusia al Fazari, a second year student, hopes 2019 will be better than 2018. “In July 2019, I’ll be waiting for the Open Day at the university, which I consider one of my best days.”
For Amina Hussaini el Yakubu, 2018 has been a year of both highs and lows. “Cheers to 2019, to love and light and more steps in leaving this earth a little better than we have found it every day,” she said.
Year 2018 was “full of challenges” for Al Ghaliya al Farsi, a fourth year pharmacy student. “I was able to build a rapport with people from different majors, attended conferences and overcame several challenges.”
Coming to the start of 2019, Al Farsi is “excited and ready for new challenges and opportunities”.
“Life has its ups and downs. We fall but we need to rise and fight again. It doesn’t matter what your goal is in your life, studies, relationship or job. As long as you want it, you can get it,” says Abeer al Falahi, another student.
According to her, good friends have a huge impact on success. “I have learned that ignorance is a blessing. I learnt you can choose who you want to be. Happiness is not a destination, it’s a way of life”
For Abeer, 2018 was a “huge transformation” and she is thankful to her friends and loved ones who were by her side during tough times.
For Diana Gabriel, an intern in medicine, New Year will be different as I’ll be doing what I love the most”.
“Hope I get a lot of holidays so I can travel a lot.”
For Snehal Pathak, another student, New Year always brings hope. “As always, I look forward to a year filled with unique adventures and challenges that will bring out the best in me.”
For Fahad al Othmani, another student, New Year is an opportunity to “establish new goals and resolutions”.
“I hope this year is blissful, joyous, and full of achievements and opportunities for all of us. It is a bright new page to think anew.”
