Youth Day opportunity to recognise achievements

SALALAH: The Sultanate represented by the National Commission for Youth celebrated at Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Recreation in Salalah the Omani Youth Day, which was allocated by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos to celebrate youths.


The celebration was held under the auspices of Sayyid Malak bin Shihab al Said in the presence of Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh al Mantheri, Chairman of the State Council, Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan al Busaidy, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar, Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harasi, Chairman of the Public Authority for Radio and TV, and a number of officials.


The allocation of a day for Omani youth stems from the belief of the wise leadership in the importance of youth for the present and future.


Dr Rashid bin Salim al Hajri, Chairman of the National Commission for Youth, delivered a speech where he said that October 26 each year is an opportunity to review the achievements that have been made. He pointed out that the National Commission for Youth implements 15 projects that are categorised under 5 strategic programmes that aim at promoting citizenship, loyalty, economic empowerment, developing youths’ capabilities, developing youth sector and enhancing youth participation. At the end of the ceremony, the chief guest honoured 15 male and female youths who have won at the local and international competitions.


The chief guest also opened the associated exhibition which included 41 corners for student companies, as well as public and private organisations interested in the youth sector, in addition to interactive platforms on the youth achievements. -- ONA
