MUSCAT: The 13th edition of the World Stock Exchanges Conference will start on February 27 at the Shangri-La Hotel Muscat under the patronage of Dr Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry, and Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Planning. The 2-day conference will be organised by Terrappin in cooperation with Muscat Securities Market (MSM).  Ahmed bin Saleh al Marhoon, Director-General of MSM, said that the conference will bring together a number of officials and experts working in the stock exchanges, investment companies, investment funds, related institutions and those interested in developing the securities industry.

He added that the conference comes in exceptional circumstances and coincides with several developments in the region’s markets, in light of the divergence of the future oil price projections that depend on the economies of the countries of the region, which in turn affected the performance of the securities sector. He pointed out that the conference sessions will receive great attention to discuss these challenges and visualisations. He stressed that developments in the securities industry in the fields of technology and mechanisms of dealing with various investment tools and reviewing the relevant legislation and laws are important themes that will be addressed by speakers at the conference with the aim of making recommendations that enhance the investment environment and attract capital.

He added that the conference, which is being attended by the competent authorities including the international investment funds, will address the challenges in the regional and international economic arena and their implications for the performance of the stock exchanges and the review of effective means and methods to limit their negative effects. Ahmed said that a large selection of experts, specialists and economic and financial decision makers will come to Muscat, which enhances the importance of the conference and its role in boosting the Sultanate’s position and identifying the investment opportunities that it boasts. — ONA
