Workshop highlights food safety

Muscat: The Research Council (TRC), represented by the Strategic Research Programme for Food Safety and Quality in cooperation with the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources, organised a workshop on food safety and quality at the Muscat Innovation Complex on Monday. The two-day workshop was inaugurated by Hamad bin Sulaiman al Ghuraibi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources for Regional Municipalities Affairs. The workshop discussed the strategic research document for food safety and quality in three sessions, focusing on the overall objectives of the programme and the vision and tasks to determine the scope of work. The second session discussed the main research themes of the document, the chemical and biological hazards of food safety and response mechanisms, issues of food fraud, halal food requirements, regulatory framework for food safety and quality issues, dietary patterns of the community and food data banks. The third session was devoted to discussing the operational plan and timetable. — ONA
