Workshop focuses on quick handling of post accident injuries

SALALAH, JAN 21 – Post accident injuries and the latest available tools to treat them came in for discussion at Sultan Qaboos Hospital (SQH) in which nursing staff of government and private healthcare establishments were given orientation and technical know-how to tackle such patients soon after their arrival at the hospital.
The discussion as well as practical sessions were conducted during a workshop organised by the SQH’s Nursing Services Department on Sunday.
The workshop saw good participation, as a total of 80 nurses drawn from the SQH and other government and private primary health institutions in the Dhofar Governorate took part.
The workshop focused on equipping the nursing staff working in the primary healthcare sector with skills to handle emergency situations and serious accident injury cases.
“The idea here is to impart the latest developments in treating injuries and mechanism to deal with emergency situations and serious cases. The experts explained to the nursing staff that time is the most important element for any such injuries,” said an official of the SQH while giving an outline of the event.
Among six specialist lectures presented at the workshop, Dr Hisham Attiah, Senior Consultant, stressed on the right handling of injuries in cervical spine and demonstrated how to handle such cases.
Dr Ahmed Salah al Din, Consultant, spoke about serious facial injuries and remedial steps.
Dr Mohammed Chowdhary of Brain Surgery and Neurology department gave a presentation on persistent coma.
Josna Jose of the same department spoke about cerebral aneurysm, also known as brain aneurysm, a cerebrovascular disorder in which weakness in the wall of a cerebral artery or vein causes a localised dilation or ballooning of the blood vessel.
B Joseph and Asmahan Awadh, nurses in the burns unit of Plastic Surgery department, made their presentations, wherein Awadh dealt with care for spinal cord injury.
