Women in Interior to get RO 20,000 to start enterprises

Women in rural and coastal areas can now set up their dream business with the financial support provided by Rafd Fund and through the Ministry of Social Development.


The ministry has announced the news in its official twitter handle and it was widely welcomed by public. The ministry clarified that the financial support will be granted for Omani women planning to establish agricultural and fisheries projects. The financial support is RO 20,000 which will be considered as long term loan. However, those wishing to get the support shall be free to run their business without involving themselves in any other jobs.


“It is now easier for rural and coastal Omani women to run their own business. This is a welcome move by the MoSD and Rafd Fund,” said Manar al Mamari from Saham. She added that there many women especially in the interiors who needed a source of income. “They are not well educated and it is hard for them to handle a job or run any business rather than traditional ones. Fisheries and agricultural business are the best for such women,” said Al Mamari.


The Ministry of Social Development explained that the project funded by the new support system will have to be monitored by the ministry once the support exceed RO 10,000.


It also advised that the supported business can’t be sold, rented or even handled by others.


The ministry came out with a brochure explaining all the requirements and conditions needed to get the financial support. Also the ministry shared the information for establishing new business or current one.
