MUSCAT: Official figures confirmed that the march of Omani woman in national development since the dawn of the blessed Renaissance in 1970, based on the cultural vision of the builder of the Modern Renaissance of Oman, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, and the role and contribution to sustainable development has witnessed much attention and achievements, both domestically and internationally.

The government policies, plans and programmes embodied the participation of woman in all fields. Omani legislations contributed to woman’s rights and helped her play an important role in development alongside men and enhancing her national role in various fields of life as a key player in sustainable development.

The Sultanate celebrates Omani Woman’s Day on October 17. The Ministry of Social Development will organise today at Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex in Salalah the official celebration of the Omani Woman’s Day under the patronage of Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan al Busaidy, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar, in the presence of Shaikh Mohammed bin Said al Kalbani, Minister of Social Development, officials and those interested in women’s affairs and heads of Omani Women’s Associations from different wilayats of the Sultanate.

The celebration programme includes the holding of the 6th family Cohesion Seminar under the title (Woman and Family Economy) which begins tomorrow, Wednesday.

The first day of the celebration will include, in addition to the opening session, a presentation by the NCSI on woman’s statistical indicators, a video film highlighting the presence of Omani women in various scientific and practical sites, a case show of an experience for an Omani entrepreneur who, through her economic project, managed to empower herself and her family economically, honouring Omani women entrepreneurs and signing agreements between Salalah Methanol Company, a sponsor of the celebration and the Omani Women’s Associations in the Governorate of Dhofar to support and sponsor some projects related to the development and promotion of women and their role in the community.

The celebration of Omani Woman’s Day 2017 will also include the opening of the Productive Families Exhibition in the commercial centre ‘Salalah Gardens’ with the participation of Omani Women’s Associations in the Governorate of Dhofar and some productive families.

The Omani Woman’s Society in Salalah will also organise an artistic night ‘Omani Night’ which will include songs and successful models of Omani women in the governorate with the participation of a major gathering of women. — ONA

Smart phone app

Coinciding with the Omani Women’s Day, a smart phone app named Sooq 7 will be launched today. Waffa al Ajmiyah (pictured), owner of the project said that the app name is inspired from the 27th day of Ramadhan and the 7th day of Dhul Qaeda when traditional markets are held all over the Sultanate in preparation for Eid al Fitr or Eid al Adha.
